Karl Vierling is the Assistant Director of Bands at Franklin Community High School in Franklin, Indiana. His duties include co-directing the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, and serving as Director of Percussion. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Indiana State University where he studied under Dr. Jimmy Finnie.

The concert bands at Franklin Community have received consistent gold ratings at ISSMA contests and the marching band has consistently been an ISSMA Scholastic Class State Finalist. The indoor percussion ensemble has been an IPA Open Class State Finalist and WGI Regional Open Finalist. Demonstrating a well-rounded program achieving at a high level, the Franklin Community Band program has been an eight-time recipient of the ISSMA All-Music Award. Prior to joining Franklin Community, Karl taught and arranged for several state and national finalist band and percussion programs in Indiana and Kentucky. His performance experience includes the Eklipse Drum and Bugle Corps, Indianapolis Colts Drumline, and Super Bowl XLVI. Karl is currently a member of the Indiana Percussion Association Board of Directors and previously served as President.

Karl currently resides in Greenwood, Indiana with his wife Jennifer and their two sons, Nathaniel and Ian.
