IMPORTANT
INFORMATION REGARDING DIGITAL COMMENTARY!
This communication contains important procedural
information detailing the new digital commentary
media. Please take the time to review this
information and share it with your staff. For
the 2010 season we will be utilizing mp3 players
to deliver the digital commentary for member
performances at every contest this season. We
have dedicated significant time, energy and
funding to take this step and we will need your
help to maintain the players.
The players are essentially USB drives, so the
Digital Commentary folks can more rapidly
transfer the data and it is ready to listen to
on the spot, rather than finding a cd player.
For your convenience the players have been
charged and tested for data and playback
capabilities. You will pick up your IPA issued
mp3 player at your first contest, similar to
picking up commentary in the past. But once the
mp3 player is in your hands, it is your
responsibility. They will be collected at the
end of the year with opportunities at prelims,
finals and our spring meeting. More information
on this process will be released as it nears the
end of the season. Lost or damaged players will
be billed to your unit for the amount it will
take to replace it. Outstanding debt will
influence your ability to register your unit in
the future.
You must bring your mp3 player to EVERY
contest!
Contest dynamics may influence
this process, but it is recommended the unit
representative deliver the mp3 player to the
Digital Commentary area, typically inside the
performance area, near the announcer.
As previously mentioned, your player has been
charged for the recommend initial charge of four
(4) hours. Subsequent charges will require about
2 hours to completely charge. This is
accomplished by removing the cap and inserting
the device into a computer USB port. It is
recommended that USB 2.0 be utilized. The mp3
player may operate differently in different
computers/operating systems. Please read the
manual in your accessory bag you will receive at
your first show for additional information about
charging your unit.
It is recommended that you remove the data each
week to expedite the listening order of the
files. Basically when you turn the unit on it
begins playing. There is no navigation screen or
capabilities with the individual players. Each
week removing the previous files will ensure an
easy process of accessing the current file on
the day of the show. Files can be saved or
backed up with traditional methods. If the
device fails to be “readable” on your computer,
try a different port or a different computer. We
can not account for every possible scenario you
will encounter, we are simply trying to give
suggestions to ensure your ensemble receives and
can utilize the commentary to prepare for
critique and/or show development.
Earphones and a lanyard cap are also included in
your accessory bag. Please ensure that you
maintain the cap with your mp3 player to ensure
proper transfer of data. The ear buds are yours
to keep; we will not be collecting them at the
conclusion of the season.
We are excited to be able to offer this
opportunity for our members. It is certainly the
Board's hope that it will enhance the
educational experience for your students.
Please
Contact Us with any
questions or concerns.
Best wishes on a great season of percussion
education.
